So I went to see 300 today! YOU GUYZ IT WAS AWESOME!!! I enjoyed it so much, I cannot explain it...but I can try :P

300 is an epic movie, in all its meanings and ways! The content and the way of production and the feelings and the music and evrything everything....KILLAH 3ALA BA3THAH 7ILO!

Its a cross of The Gladiator and The Matrix and Mortal Combat :P

I can't describe it...you have to watch it yourselves...people have told me how great it was before I went, but it was not the same....It was a whole other experience...

OK, next up, I have this piece I wrote for a creative writing group that I'm in and I'd like to post it here..please tell me what you think :)

My foot slipped on the algae covered floor. The world turned upside down and I fell head over heels into the icy cold water. It slapped my flesh as I became submerged in the dark and still water. It stung me like a thousand knives penetrating my body, I fought, trying to find my way back to the surface, but I didn’t know up from down. I opened my eyes but I might as well have kept them shut, as I could not see a single thing. It was like being stuck in the darkest corner on earth, unable to cry for help, unable to help yourself amidst the deadly black. I kept fighting, trying to find my way back up, but I was going nowhere, the mass of nothingness kept spreading into eternity, there was no escape. I tried to scream for help but the darkness took that away too. It muffled my voice with its heaviness, no one could hear me. Slowly my lungs began to fail me, pounding against my chest, pleading for a new breath of air. My muscles were melting away, unable to move anymore without the aid of oxygen. I didn’t want to give up though; I had to see the light again. But it was too late my lips parted of their own accord and my lungs sucked the icy liquid like a vacuum. In moments my lungs became leaded with water, still, dead. I never imagined my end to be this way. It was a slow and agonizing procedure. My organs flickered into shut down mode, my body convulsing, and the blood in my veins rippling to a stop, my heart beating for the last time. The darkness around me faded away, and then no more…

Did the mid-year break just zoom by or what?! It only seems like yesterday that we did our final exams :S
I can't believe I'm saying this but I don't feel like going to school every morning yet, I need a longer break! Aren't you guys finding it exceedingly difficult to get out of bed every morning or is it just me?!

Hiiiiiiiiii! I'm back! It's been so long, and I miss my blog and my fellow bloggers soooo much! Finally, I'm done with assignments, reports, researches, essays and finals... After "5abbat il3eed" and "loyat ilzwarat" and the "kash5a", the make-up and "3awar ilka3ab il3ali", my family and I decided to take a break from all that and go sit on the beach! So my mum and dad, my sisters and brother, my aunts, uncles and cousins and I went to Shiik resort and we sat on the beach in the cool weather...the sound of the waves, the wind blowing in our faces, the sand sinking in all the nooks and crannies of our feet.....aaaaaaaaaahhh! Ra7a wa istijmam!! Then we went to Tumbleweed restaurant in Al-Bid3 and I ordered "Chicken Enchelladas"...YUM! It was so great an outing we might repeat it this week! =)

Hello, I know I've been long again. This time it was because my computer was attacked by a virus and I had to get it formatted etc. Stupid useless Norton Anti-virus software...!

So, what's been going on lately...?

Brazil VS Nadi Kuwait football match was awesome!!! I wish I was there...I have to attend a live football match at least once in my life :) Well, nothing unexpected...all the Kuwaiti team got a chance to play with the Brazilian stars (which I think was the whole purpose of this game really!) I felt so happy though seeing them play...ishawgoon!

Yes...Nadal went out after losing to non-seeded Youzhny in the quarter finals....HARD LUCK HUN! Unfortunately we won't have a Federer-Nadal final this time!
But the championship is drawing to a close with Maria Sharapova winning the ladies' singles title after playing against first seed Amelie Mauresmo...and the mens final will take place today: Andy Roddick (who was to play Nadal in semi finals if he hadn't lost) VS Roger Federer (who made his way easily through the championship) ...

These past few days the rain has made a huge comeback after a long dry summer, don't you think??

First of all that bizzare downfall in Nuwaiseeb the other day struck us all by surprise since it isn't doesn't usually rain up until, what, November?

There were also a clip from somewhere in the Emirates on the news only yesterday showing a FLOOD in the desert! Do you believe that?! The water levels were so high that only the green parts of the palm trees were visible. And it was flowing...!

MASHALLA! Hopefully these accidents are really more than just that, a sign maybe of a nice wet winter...5air inshallah! No really :)

Oh yes and might I add that the rain in New York keeps suspending the matches in the US open! Most games were suspended yesterday.

The Prophet

I finished reading "The Prophet" by Gibran Khalil Gibran. Very nice! Its just full of morals and ethics, its just great! All the while that I was reading it (just a few hours :P ) I felt like I wanted to write some quotes down, preserve some timeless advice... It was a very relaxing experience indeed, a great afternoon read!

Today a great line-up of tennis games...I can't wait! The males that'll be playing are Federer, Nadal, Blake Nalbandian, Safin, Agassi, Roddick and the ladies: Mauresmo, Sharapova and Williams...Talk about tennis heaven!!!

I went to The Palms Beach Hotel and Resort the other day...was nice the have nice tennis courts ;) Maybe I'll go play there someday! They have nice pools and a spa and a gym, oh and the beach is fantastic...

My aunt called the other day and she was urging us to come over "for a surprise!" as she said! When we arrived, the dining table was adorned with a fountain of melted chocolate accompanied by a plate of mixed fruits and biscuits and other edible jewels ready to be dipped in to the chocolate! They bought a chocolate fountain!!! How exciting!

U.S Open Coming Soon!

The U.S Open Tennis Championship starts Monday and I'm sooo excited. I can't wait to watch good tennis matches again! Hopefully I'll find the channel that is showing the tournament..hehe

I'll be keeping you up to date on what goes on....but until then, here's a picture from a one-on-one match between tennis champs and rivals, Federer and Nadal which took place on the streets of Manhatten as an exhibition before the tournament.....

Kabhi Alvida Na Kihna

Well, to be honest, I wasn't so excited, almost anxious that it wouldn't be nice, but Kabhi Alvida Naa Kihna turned out to be a good movie. It is the story of a married man and a married woman (Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji) who try to help each other with their marital problems but soon fall in love with each other. O ba3dain it shows you the problems each one of them faces with their husband/wife (Preity Zinta and Abhishek Batchchan) and family (Amitabh Bachchan).

6ab3an 6weeeel o ybachi :P o yes I shed a few tears...(but thats just me I cry in almost all movies!) My mum and my aunt were probably the only two people in the showroom who were laughing their heads off ("9ij filim hindi...ma yista3'non 3an ilmu6ar!" "umbay! ilcombars nafis-hom illi yargi9oon nafis-hum illi yamshoon bishwari3!") UGH! 3a9iboni! How could they not like it? It was a good movie...If you've seen it please tell me you liked it! :P

Street Musicians

They play in the street, at the corner, round the bend. In the rain or under the sun, they strum their strings, they beat their drums. They sway their bows across their hearts, they sing, they do their thing. People pass by, most hear but they don't listen. I take a moment and sit by the curb and I try to figure out what the musicians are trying to say. I hear no words but I feel the meanings coming to me within the music. Sometimes I feel hope, sometimes it's fear or remorse, other times it's love but most of all it's just pure passion. I hear it in their music, I see it in their eyes, and I feel it in my soul. I find that I have so much respect for these people and how they can say so much without saying anything at all. I put a penny in their box knowing that I will never need words to understand what they are saying. Music is the language that they use.

The Road to Karachi

I just finished "The Road to Karachi", a novel by Kuwaiti novelist Haithem Boodai. It is the story of a group of Kuwaiti sailors that face aroller wave while at sea...
The plot of the story was good...but the characters weren't developed so much. The translation was very bad...there were so many mistakes but you could get pretty much everything. If you maybe buy the Arabic version it would be different. To put it in a couple of words: If you've time to kill go ahead and read it.
It does give you an insight of what our grandfathers mighthave faced on those challenging sea quests, and there were also some good descriptions of the rice plantations in India.....
I will now go on to reading the compiled short stories from the same writer and I'll tell you about that when I'm done.

New Books and More Movies

Hey there! I popped into Virgin last night and I bought two new books. They are both by a Kuwaiti writer: Haithem Boodai. One is a prize winning novel titled "The Road to Karachi" and the other is a compilation of short stories titled "The Palms". I wanted something to read and I thought "Hey thats something new, lets try this out" So I'll read them and I'll tell you how it was....

I also watched quite a few movies this past week...
Alive (starring Ethan Hawk) A movie based on the true events of a plane carrying a rugby team and their family and friends which crashes in the Andes mountains. They story shows how they fight for survival and how they find God in that isolation. A touching story I thought. Good movie.

Pride and Prejudice (starring Keira Knightly,Matthew Macfadyen) I don't think that this story needs introduction (grabbing long cane just incase) It is only one of the best love stories EVER! LOL Anyway, it was fun watching this version although I didn't like as much as the BBC one starring Colin Firth (swoooooons) I thought I wasn't going to like this Mr. Darcy but he wasn't bad...at all! Oh yes, and I don't see why Keira was nominated for the best actress oscar for this role...she wasn't THAT good?! Oh well..! Watch it :)

Poseidon (starring Kurt Russell) A huge ship is turned over by a huge tidal wave on new years eve. The people who were in the ballroom are safe in the sealed air-bubble that it is, but for how long?! A group of passenger decide to take action themselves and head up to the surface. Hmm, it was OK.. A few "how did that happen?"'s and "where did that come from?"'s :P I would say a good TV movie but I can't because it had some amazing scenery and cool shots and stuff...

Just a Little Something...

This is just a little something I wrote the other day. It is based on a dream I had earlier on this month. I'd appreciate your comments on my writing, here goes:

I was walking down the road and it happened in a flash. There was no sound at all, no one was around. The bullets came at me so slowly, I could see them with my eyes but I can't do anything to stop them coming my way. They enter my body one by one, cutting into my flesh and burying themselves within me. I could feel them inside me, hot but cold at the same time. At first there was no pain, no pain at all, just silence and I couldn't believe what had happened. It must be a mistake. I must move on and get home but my feet won't move an inch. I look around, I look for help but I am alone with this body that feels less like my own with each second that passes. This body pierced with bullets. I look down at my shirt, it is stained with blood, blood so dark, so hot. I lift my shirt up to examine the wounds. They don't look so bad, just bloody holes in a cold body. A searing pain shoots right through me, it reaches every nerve in me, every single one. I finally feel the pain. It's so unbearable, I fall to the hard wet ground. I finally feel the pain but somehow it gives me a sense of comfort deep inside. I am somehow watching myself lying on the ground, in that dark road, all alone, with no one around. How is this happening? Why is this happening? It doesn't matter, a voice within me says, it is finally over. I won't have to feel anything anymore, because your bullets drained me of my blood, they drained me of my soul, they drained me of my life.

When I woke up this morning I had an urge to call the university and ask about my withdrawal from the summer coarse and whether they accepted it or not. The committee that says "yes" or "no" were supposed to meet on the 15th of July...and they said they would call me. But they didn't so I decided to do so myself! *GRRR* And, yes, after a couple of phone calls I was finally told that they accepted my papers!!! Il7amdillah! At the beginning of the coarse I was freaking out that they might not accept, but then all the anxiety turned into power (:P) and I was always telling myself that they couldn't refuse because they don't have anything against me...I've got all my papers and a real medical excuse and all that...
So finally I can relax and concentrate on enjoying whats left of the summer holiday :)

I was strolling through the rainbow coloured candy isle in Bayan Co-op today when I spotted Razzles!!! It's both a candy and a gum!

For those of you who have seen the movie "13 Going on 30" you'll probably recognize the name. Jenna (Jennifer Garner) and Matt (Mark Ruffalo) ate it all the time :) (it's one of my favourite chick flicks!)

While we're on that note about chick flicks...I watched "Just Like Heaven" starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo last night. It was sooo CUTE! It's definately on my favourite chick flicks list =D It's basically about a guy who moves into an apartment only to find a girl who keeps appearing (and disappearing) there and claiming that the apartment is her's. While helping each other figure out whats wrong, they fall in love...but can they live happily ever after?

Oh yes...did I mention that I'm going to see Superman Returns tonight...well I am along with my sisters and my cousins...To be honest, I'm not really excited (bas ray7a 7ag ilyam3a!) but I hope it turns out to be a good movie..

I went to a music concert on Thursday, titled تخت شرقي, held in AbdulAziz Hussain Theatre in Mishrif. Some amazing pieces were played by the National Band/Group. Maestro and nai player Mohammed Al-Khalaf lead the group profesionally, and the two pieces that he had composed were ones of the best that were played that night, in addition to the nahawand tukish piece (played on the violin) and Biktub Ismak Ya Habibi, played by the group and sung by Bader Nouri who proved himself a capable singer with a great-range voice. Other pieces by Mohammed AbdulWahab and the brothers Rahbani were played.
All in all, a great show!!!

P.S. The absence of oud player Fawzi Al-Lingawi was evident! No one plays it like you :)

The Jacket

I saw "The Jacket" the other day. Its the story of a war veteran who gets shot twice in the head and suffers temporary amnesia. As a result he is the only wittness ina murder crime and is put in a hospital for the criminally insane. Strapped in a straight jacket as a new treatment method he travels to the future and discovers ways to help his loved ones.
It was a nice psycho-thriller movie...A little confusing at first but it wraps up nicely so you get pretty much all of it in the end. I'd give it 6.9
If you like this type of movie (and Adrien Brody/Keira Knightly) its the movie for you

I don't know where to start! I am just so pissed off at the "system" they use in this country. Where on Earth does a procedure (mu3amala) so simple like producing a licence take three days to get done? The same day I passed my driving test my daddy took my papers and my pictures to get the stuff done. He called me a while later and said that they will not accept the pictures because the new machine they have installed (in order to be up to date in the use of modern technology) which scans licence photos does not accept pictures that do not have a blue background!!! (GRRRR!) My dad came home steaming at the ears (due to the weather and the idiocy of "the system") and I don't blame him for that matter and we decided to go take new pictures (with a blue background) the next day.
We did just that and when my dad took them the following working day..yes..you guessed it, they sent him back home with no licence! Their excuse this time was first that the pictures were too small and then that I wasn't facing forward properly....Might I add that these problems exist only because of the installation of this goddamn device and that they take around 40 KD stamps to do their jobs terribly....I'm not a swearing person so I hope you can guess why I keep using ..... ! Now I have to go to them in the muroor place and they'll have my picture taken there, in the morning, with puffy eyes and a bad temper. Is this just my luck or is it a result of Kuwaits failing attempts at becoming an electronic government? Does this happen to you too?

A Pirates Life for Me

Ahoy! I went to see The Pirates Of The Carribean: Dead Man's Chest movie last night and it was a BLAST! Whoever said sequels were always bad is definately wrong because this one was just as good as the first. Great acting, non-stop action and breath-taking scenery plus it ends in the most wonderful cliff-hanger e-v-e-r! The same charming rum addict- Captain Jack Sparrow ;) the galant Will Turner and the rebel Elizabeth Swann are back with their old friends and many more new enemies...If you haven't yet seen it you just have to!
P.S. The soundtrack adds to the magic of the movie.

Hello...I have just come back from my driving test and I passed!!! I should probably be jumping for joy now but I'm just slouching on my favourite couch :S It's not that I'm not happy or anything, I am..I'm glad that I passed and that I'll be out driving soon but the experience itself was so ridiculous and silly. Here is what happened:
I did the written test, easy-peasy lemon-squeezy...then I had it corrected and the police-man signed the istimara and said to go get a car and go to lane 3 in the driving test...O-K! I got a car and did just that. The first part of the test apparantly was the parking test..I watched the little cars bump into the pavements and the barriers as I waited for my turn :) When it was finally my turn and after I reversed perfectly (in my opinion :P ) I heard someone shout something but I couldn't quite make out the words. I looked outside my window and realised that the police-man was talking to me. He asked what my name was and I told him, and he was like: "7ayach Allah oboy, tfathilay."
Huh! What?! Excuse me??!! What, is it over? I didn't do anything! I drove out and I headed to the waiting room and after a while the police-man came with a handful of OK-ed istimaras, on of which was mine..."NAJ7A" it said. End of story.
Just to make things clear...I went without a wa96a...I went with my humble daddy alone, although I could have brought along a trail of officer relatives but I am totally against wa96a so I didnt. So I'm baffled, I am dumbfounded...I don't get it...why the special treatment? What if I drove like a drunkard? How could they give licenses to people like that..without a real test?!
I'm glad I can get a license now..and I will accept it because I know that if I had been tested accordingly I would have passed...They should test everyone properly..this is just not right...no wonder there are so many lunatics on the streets!!!

Hey everyone! I'm happy to announce that during the past week or so I have been attending driving lessons!!! Well, to tell you the truth I was never really excited about driving and unlike many young people didn't really give a damn (excuse my french :P )
But now that I'm actually behind the wheel it isn't really that bad, and I think I'm starting to like it. My test is tomorrow so wish me luck because I'm not going to be happy if I need to get more lessons...
I just hope everything goes right and I pass and nothing funny happens while I'm there WISH ME LUCK O:)

So the world cup is finally over..and Italy have made it to the top.
To tell you the truth it was never clear this year who was going to make it, there were just so many possibilities. Anyway congrats to the Italian supporters..
Note to Zidane: What got into you man?! OMG! What a shame, what-a-shame! Its your last match EVER in front of MILLIONS...what did you do that for?!?!

The ladies' fainal was fun to watch..very well played on both parts..congratulations to Amelie who won her first Wimbledon title ever! Hard luck to Justine Henin-Hardenne...
The men's final was just great...Rafael Nadal was clearly nervous in the first set when Federer won 6-0..but he picked up his pace and showed us the real fighter he is, but it was clear that Federer wanted that trophy so bad that he wasn't letting Nadal have any cheap points...they were both fighting till the end! The scores were : Federer 6 7 6 6
Nadal 0 6 7 3
Congratulations to Federer and Mauresmo, hard luck to Henin-Hardenne and Nadal :)
PS I'm sure we'll see Rafa hold (and bite) that trophy sooner rather than later ;D

I know I've been long, but my internet connection wasn't its fabulous self last week! So we are down to the final two for the men and ladies singles in the Wimbledon championship...(drum roll please):

Amelie Mauresmo (frn) VS Justine Henin Hardenne (blg)

and

Roger Federer (sui) VS Rafael Nadal (esp)

I don't really mind who wins from the ladies, they are both great tennis players. As for the men, well Federer is great and he's won before, yeah yeah, lets hope it's Rafa's turn this time...I really hope he wins!! Wish him luck you guyz!!!

Wimbledon Begins!

The Wimbledon Tennis Championship has started on the 26th of June and will carry on until the 9th of July. You can watch the matches on ART sports channel 3. Rafael Nadal has played two matches up to today and won both going into the 3rd round. He will next play against Andre Agassi and I wish him all the luck in the world :D In todays game he played against the American player Robert Kendrick and it was a fantastic game! Kendrick won the first two sets but Nadal quickly tipped the scales and won the next three sets winning the match. Both players have amazing skill and the game was either fast shot aces or long exciting rallies. The game was a cliff hanger as they were both relentless to give up so easily.
Congratulations Rafa...my dad hates you but I'm with you till the end ;D

I watched "Walk the Line" the other day and I loved it! It tells the story of the life of an American icon..an idol when it comes to music! The role of Johnny Cash was played by the amazing actor Joaquin Pheonix and the female leading role of June Carter was played by Reese Witherspoon who won an oscar for playing this role. It wasn't just a story of a famous singers life..it was a story of a human being and thats why I loved it. The 60's were portrayed amazingly to the extent that I couln't believe this was shot in 2005. And the music was just AWESOME! Its sad they don't make music like that anymore.A great round of applause to the actors who sang the songs themselves, they did an amazing job!
Watch the movie and buy the soundtrack...you won't regret it!!!

Hard Luck Spain

I'd just like to say hard luck to the Spaniards for losing to the French. It was a great, fun, very exciting game full of surprises. Everyone thought the French weren't up to standard this World Cup but they managed to pull it off somehow. Oh well, congratulations to them and to all their fans (*AnGeL*) It was a nice game especially for Zidane who had the pleasure of scoring the final goal...
Is it going to be his last for his country...hmm...we're gonna have to wait and see! ;P~
Good luck to them playing against Brazil...I hope they lose };D

On her way out she saw them. They were sitting a few meters away, just chatting. He seemed relaxed with his feet crossed and his back against the chair. The girl appeared to be a little less confident. He glanced her way, they made eye contact, he felt a jolt in his stomach then turned back to his companion.
'Wow!' she thought. She never imagined him to be in a situation like that although he was just like the other boys. Her insides felt hollow, she wanted to talk to someone about what she had seen. 'Wait a minute,' she thought, 'Why is this happening? I have nothing to do with this. It's not like he belongs to me...I don't even like him!' She smiled to herself, her insides having returned to her body, and she got in her car and drove home.

Dreams

I've been having vivid dreams lately, dreams that seem so real that when I wake up I think "That couldn't have only been a dream..IT WAS REAL!"
I don't know why this happens exactly but I enjoy having them...it's so fun. These dreams are often about things that will never happen in real life so its wonderful to be able to experience them in almost life-like situations.
I've had ones where I'm hanging out with random famous people, and I've had a couple where I am shot by a bullet and it felt so real...I could feel the hot bullets in my body and the blood and everything!!!
Have any of you guys had these dreams? If you have, here's a question for you...After you wake up from such a dream are you happy that you had it or sad that it was only a dream???

Hi, I have been away for the past few days because I had an operation on Thursday. Everything happened so fast. First, a little pain, then, lots of pain and swelling. I couldn't sit, sleep, stand, walk or do anything without feeling pain. So I went to the doctor and he said that he needed to operate on me. I was like "WuH?!" I never had an operation or anything like that so it was a pretty slap on the face! :P But everything happened so quickly and it was soon over.
Yesterday I went for a check up and they changed the bandaging and the doctor was like, "Its healing pretty well, and you'll soon be ready for the next operation" Slap in the face number two! Which other operation?! I was in a state of shock, pain and depression for a while, but I'm OK now. I thank God that it's nothing serious, and I hope the next operation will run smoothly and quickly (..and with minimal pain.)
Ofcoarse all of this happening so suddenly is confusing me as to what to do with my summer coarse. Should I continue? Should I just take a few days off? Or should I withdraw from the whole thing? I dunno!!! :s Since I'll be having another operation, which means more check ups (and more pain) I think it's best to try and withdraw...What do you think I should do?

I think that we (people here in Kuwait) need to be much more well-rounded, culturally aware people. I hope we become that one day. I'm not saying that no ones like that...but most of us are not. We need more cultural events, exhibitions, theatre, music concerts, lectures, just CULTURE!
O and by the way tara fee...there is stuff like that but I often hear about it too late or after its finished (or never!!!) and I get so frustrated. Newspapers!! Magazines!! TV!! Internet!! Why aren't these media sources telling the society about these important events?? Do any of you guys feel the same way? If not where can I find a reliable source which informs me about such events?

Congratulations to the Spanish tennis sensation Rafael Nadal on winning the Roland Garros championship. He played against the Swiss player Roger Federer, the world champion today. It was an amazing game with ups and downs for both players and it ended with a tense tie breaker at the end of which Nadal won the game.

Ok...enough with the newspaper talk :P YAY! I'm so happy!!! :D Well done Rafa...VAMOS!!!
